change of heat

well, well, well; with the summertime finally coming around and deciding to join the party; here is a bundle plausible Nor'East (or elsewhere) jaunts to keep you in the summery mood.

1. summer reading by local (stunning writer) Jessica Anthony, The Convalescent. I have it ordered. If the weather keeps up, I'm taking it to Willard Beach.
2. St. Vincent to my West. I suppose a $12 ticket to see Annie Clark play songs is in our best summer interest. August 6. Before the Andrew Bird tour.
3. Figa is set to open around the corner from me. I think it is going to be a gem.
4. Strawberry picking at Maxwell's tomorrow! Gonna make some jam, gonna make some sorbet. Fresh, fresh!
5. join the throngs for an evening of fireworks by the ocean.

summer is grey

the rainy season is here and these are my only ideas for beating the dull days. i had the idea that i would be basking on the maine coast for summer, but alas. here is how we make due.

1. business: get rid of fruit flies.
2. almond, raisin, granola and yogurt with fresh fruit from the farmer's market

3. thao and the get down stay down. pitchfork reviews the album with praise, here where you can listen to the full album.
4. spanikopita in honor of the late Greek festival in Portland, which, sadly, I missed.
5. watch this film, Synecdoche, New York twice. (Charlie Kaufman written & directed)
6. eat my dinner by the sea.

list of songs and dance

for the mood I'm moving through, I can't listen to lullabies although Iron & Wine's Around the Well is slippery smooth and evening slow music.
and I can't get close to the irreverent poppy dance tracks like the new Starfucker, although on a mix tape from my little sister, it fits perfectly.

but today I discovered a new album from my friends Foam Castles. You can download the entire album, Night Crawling, here.

1.One night I took a bath in Rome. It was my only night in the city. And instead of going out with friends, I stayed in alone and took a bath in a white bathroom with a tall ceiling.

2.Now I'm taking tea by my bed with my kitten near the sill in the winter on a day it snowed like mad and I'm staying in to write something I will publish for it's questions and musings and strange specificity, an ethnographic account and investigative article on the way borders and middle eastern art correspond and how the arab world is shifting now.

feminism, solar houses & nice design, glasses, music collections, sustainable development, sleepovers, toast, cooking dinner at first, "you're not going to leave," my treat jameson, plaid shirts, films, talking about della, opening the door, dropping me off and not inviting him over

3.'A map is more unreal than where you've been
Or how you feel'
This is my favorite lyric.

4.You can buy a set of plates that map the city plan and geography of Sydney, Dubai, Las Vegas, and Cairo. They look as if they could all be the same place, and then you think how places come to mean something for us, completely unique of one another. And then you think borders might be real. When, in fact, they're not real at all.
1. this is my best friend and songs from her new album, to be released next week.

2. this is the last film i watched. please watch it and note how you feel.

3. this is what i'll attend this weekend.

valentin

1.I recommend giving this compliment to your lover. (Throughout the eighties, the RAH Band popped into the British Dance Music Charts whenever possible. Thank you for this song.)
2. For an absurd and quite pleasing emotional rush, Slumdog Millionaire is worth the eight dollars if only for the MIA.
3. If anyone would like to be my valentine, this is what I wish for. I just interviewed an artists whose friends got together and took a million tiny square photos with Holgas before picking fifty to show at exhibition, after fighting over who took what, they totally gave up discerning credit to the individual.
4. for feeling dreamy.
5. in honor of the love that's blowing about, I am meeting with my dear friend and bridal magazines this week to begin planning their love celebration.
